Dr G. The smallest change in the bore/ inner diameter/ wall thickness of a bow or neck can make a HUGE difference in how a sax sounds. Play two saxophones (well set up) from the late 1930's and make some notes on what you felt behind the horn. Then rebuild both horns with fresh resonator pads, and make more notes.

Bass is my main, sax is my second (or third depending on how one views it). As a supportive rhythm instrument vs. what is essentially a lead instrument, these are two different beasts.
